Kohl King is an Indian-born mixed media artist and curator, based in South Florida. She received her education at Brevard College in North Carolina, University of Georgia (BFA), Cooper Union School for the Advancement of Arts & Sciences, University of Arizona (MFA), and Art Center College of Design. Her work focuses on exploring the vulnerability of being alive in the transience of time and an ever-changing world. Her practice is inspired by the ancient Indian sutra Tat Tvam Asi, which translates to "I Am That" and implies that everything sensed is an extension of the self. Some of her previous exhibitions have been at the Gallery of Contemporary and Indigenous Art in Arizona, the Torrance Museum of Art, Otis College of Art, West Los Angeles College, and Fellows of Contemporary Art (FOCA) in California. King is a professor of art at Broward College in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

It should come as no surprise that my work mostly derives from attempts to psychologically resolve frequently competing natures and their connection to wider life events or locations, given that I am an immigrant to Western society and have lived in many different places throughout my life. My focus is on exploring intangible notions that deal with vulnerable feelings or experiences that appear so enormous, unmanageable, unreal, or surreal, yet are simply a part of being alive and living. I create in a variety of mediums and use materials or subjects metaphorically. Staying open to whatever is revealed while creating my art is crucial to me because it not only helps me find my inner truths, but it also anchors me.
